pSEO
noun
Programmatic SEO is a type of search engine optimization (SEO) that focuses on automation. It involves using various tools and techniques to automate the optimization of online content to meet more organic search engine ranking criteria. This type of SEO helps to streamline the process for companies, improving the effectiveness and efficiency of their SEO campaigns. Its main objective is to help businesses rank better in organic search engine results.
That’s the definition of programatic SEO according to chatGPT. Not bad, I’d say 8/10.
What I would add is that programmatic SEO can feel like a superpower once you’re able to harness it. Building out content pages can be daunting – it takes hours of research and writing, and sometimes doesn’t deliver the expected value to your business. Programmatic SEO, on the other hand, can deliver that value. Let’s explore why.
Understanding Programmatic SEO
pSEO leverages a combination of structured data, AI, and code (or no-code) in order to pump out valuable content that will attract users to your website. Instead of talking about it, lets look at a real-world example
Wine-1-1
This website is an AI chat bot wine sommelier that is supposed to give you the best wine recommendation based on your next meal. Don’t like the first one? Tell it what you like, your price range, how fancy you’re feeling, and it’ll try to give you the best option. That’s the product, but how do they get users? You guessed right! Leveraging pSEO.
Their AI model was trained using a dataset of wines that includes tasting notes, price, producer, etc. So they have a ton of structured wine data. How can they turn that data into content, to then turn readers into customers for they AI sommelier?
Using that structured data, they created hundreds of pages of “X wine review”. Swap out X for the name of the wine (e.g https://www.wine-1-1.co/post/guillaume-aurèle-viognier-2020-wine-review .)
Why does this work? Well the title of each page “X wine review” is intended to capture the search terms directly. When you want to look for the reviews on a specific wine, what are you going to look up? Most likely something like “X wine review”.
So we can see pretty clearly the perks of leveraging your dataset. They’re able to get a long tail of search queries and pull curious wine lovers into their ecosystem and attempt to convert them into users. Programatic SEO is extremely scalable. You can deliver your content once a week, five times a week, any cadence that suites your business and the size of your dataset. pSEO has another key benefit. Its affordable. You don’t need to hire writers or write yourself. Leverage your datasets or start to look for them. They’re out there.
To summarize, pSEO is a facet of content creation that you should be ignoring at your own risk. The ability to pump out valuable content on a consistent basis is exactly what users want. Now you have to give it to them.
